Spring Fashion Inspiration: Outfits to Keep You Chic & Comfortable

Making your own clothes is so fun. There are so many possibilities. This post is designed to inspire you and to help give you ideas for what clothes to make for your Spring wardrobe. I hope you love it!

Cute DIY Spring Tops

The first inspiration is truly a basic wardrobe staple. The Jessica Tee & Dress Pattern makes the perfect everyday t-shirt pattern.

This next one is perfect for warm sunny days! It's the new Natalie Knotted Tank Pattern. The pattern is designed for knit (stretchy) fabrics and is finished with a facing.

If you think the tank would be a cute workout top, we have a video on how to add a shelf bra to the tank. You can watch that HERE.

This next pattern is perfect for so many occasions! It's actually from our straight fit size chart - The Straight Fit Basic Tee Pattern. In the picture below you can see that this sewist added a pocket, so cute!

Next up is a cute curvy fit pattern with a fun detail - the Flounce Tee Pattern. Make it with short sleeves, 3/4 or long sleeves so that it really works for any season.

In the picture below, the sewist has made the Be Bold Top & Dress Pattern along with modified Feel Pretty Shorts & Pants Pattern (to have a paperbag ruffle at the top of the waistband). The Boho style is coming back!

And lastly, for the Tops section, we have the Twist it Up Top Pattern which as a cute little twist detail and the center front hem.

Shorts, Pants, and Rompers Sewing Patterns

This next section is all about shorts, pants, and romper patterns!

First up is a fan favorite and one of Ellie and Mac's best sellers - the South Shore Romper Pattern. This pattern features a cross front, faux wrap bodice with side gathers plus lots of options on length of sleeves and pants.

If you love the look of this, but not rompers themselves, be sure to check out this video on how to make this pattern separates with the same look! - Click here to watch that video tutorial.

Below you'll see the Feel Pretty Shorts & Pants Pattern paired with the Everyday Tee Pattern.

The neat thing about the Feel Pretty Shorts & Pants Pattern is that although they are designed for woven fabrics, they work so well in knits! Try using 2 or 4 way stretch knits in place of wovens for this pattern, you'll love the drapey, comfortable results!

Next up is a cute hack using the Paperbag Pants Pattern. The only change to the pattern was to add straps which gives it a fun suspender look.

If you're looking for a fast and easy pattern for shorts, here's another make using the Feel Pretty Shorts & Pants. Isn't the leopard fabric so fun?

Below is a fabulous pattern to make to wear underneath skirts and dresses! It's the Smooth Anti-Chafing Slip Shorts Pattern which includes a wide gusset at the center so that there is no crotch seam. This pattern is also great for DIY athleisure looks and exercise!

The next pattern is perfect for exercise, lounge wear, and athleisure outfits. It's the Good Vibes Joggers Pattern. The top pattern has been retired, but you could pair the joggers with the Cold Shoulder Pattern or use the Cold Shoulder Jumper Pattern for the full look!

DIY Dresses and Skirt Ideas for Spring

Let's talk dresses and skirts. Do you enjoy wearing either in the Spring?

Below is the Heart and Soul Twist Top and Dress Pattern which includes this gorgeous twist in the front and the option for regular or angel sleeves.

The next is a fabulous sewing pattern for beginners. The Tee Dress Pattern is simple to sew and easy to throw on in the Spring with sandals, flats, or tennis shoes. You can also dress it up with wedges or heels for more formal occasions.

If you like this look but would want a dress with slightly less ease and a shirt option, you can check out the Jessica Tee & Dress Pattern.

Next up is a beautiful dress with a small hack. This sewist used the Be Confident Tunic & Dress Pattern and added circle sleeves from the Be Dreamy Dress Pattern.

If you're looking for a dressier pattern, check out the Anticipation Dress Pattern. The back is so pretty, scroll down to see it.

This dress pattern is wonderful for weddings and other formal events. You can choose to add the sleeve flounce or not!

Next is the Sweetie Pie Tunic & Dress Pattern. This one has a flattering hourglass shape. The tunic length is perfect if you love to wear leggings or skinny jeans with a longer top. Or choose the dress length option with goes to the knees.

Have you seen the Ellie and Mac Book Club Top Pattern? The sewist in the picture below lengthened the top to be a dress. It turned out so lovely!

If you're looking for a simple sleeveless dress with gathers at the waist, this pattern is perfect. It's the Monday Morning Dress Pattern. There are not complicated options to decide about. Just pick your desired neckline and if you want to add pockets or not!

Need a show stopping dress pattern for a special occasion or just a flirty dress for everyday (the look will depend on the fabric you choose). Meet the Tres Belle Dress Pattern (one of Ellie and Mac's best selling dress patterns). It features a cross over front, faux wrap bodice and multiple options for the skirt type.

The dress pattern below is designed for woven fabrics. It has a v-neck in the front and back. The back has ties to keep the dress in place. The waist is cinched with a elasticised casing and the dress has a handkerchief hem with two length options. Check out the Batwing Dress Pattern for more details.

Need a cute skirt pattern to add to your spring wardrobe? Check out the Button A-Line Skirt which has options for patch pocket with flaps, a button down front, belt loops, and multiple length options. This pattern is designed for woven fabrics.

Next up is a cute baby doll dress pattern called the I Love the 90s Dress Pattern. This one is a definite fan favorite! It's a relatively quick sew with a darling result!

This dress pattern is so unique. Why? It's reversible! And it has cute princess seams that give you the ability to colorblock too. It's called the Reversible Dress Pattern (there's also the same pattern for kids HERE).

This woven dress pattern is so classic and beautiful. Plus, it includes a cute flounce bodice that is not only eye catching, but totally flattering! Meet the Mariza Garden Party Dress Pattern!

The two pictures below show different views of the Diana Tiered Top and Dress Pattern. This one has sooo many options. Go check out the listing by clicking the title above to see them all.

Looking for a fun dress pattern for woven fabrics? Check out the Be Bold Top & Dress Pattern which allows you to easily make a top or dress with a number of options (most are very beginner friendly!).

Cardigans, Blazers, and Shawls

Below are a few ideas for breezy days, chilly nights, or cold offices.

First up is the Elevated Blazer Jacket Pattern which works great in a structured knit like ponte or a scuba with a softer hand. Doesn't it look so professional?

Looking for a long cardigan sewing pattern? The Be Mine Cardigan Pattern has a cute gather at the front, banded bodice, and a cuffed sleeves. This one is a definite winner for a Spring Wardrobe.

These last two show a unique sewing pattern. This is the Free Spirit Shawl Pattern. It works in so many fabrics and is ridiculously easy to sew.

Isn't it pretty in a bright color? It makes the outfit truly pop in the picture below.
