Part of having a sewist heart is not wanting any materials to go to waste. How in the world can you just trash a piece of fabric and not make it into a new wonder?? Today I want to show you a completely no sew way to turn old jeans into a perfectly useable apron for all those sewing tools you need most.
Materials needed:
- Good fabric scissors
- Old jeans
- Sewing chalk pencil
- Sewing machine (optional)
Step one:
Grab up a pair of old jeans and lay them flat on your cutting board.
Step two:
Draw a straight line across right above the crotch. Be sure to make it as even as possible. You can clean it up later if need be.
Step three:
Cut across line making sure you get both layers. It should now look like this:
Step four:
Flip the jeans over. Take your scissors and cut on the inside of side seam making sure seam is still in tack on front. Cut up to waistband. Then cut under waist band all the way to other side seam. Then cut down side of seam. Be careful to not cut through the side seam. Also, watch out that your good scissors doesn’t hit that zipper. You will need to cut off the belt loops or take a seam ripper to remove them. Your back should not look like this:
Step 5: (optional)
Flip over your apron. It now will look like the below picture. At this point you can decorate your apron how you like by serging the edges with a decorative colored thread. You could apply applique or any number of things to make it personal to you.
What is NOT optional is putting this baby to use! Enjoy!
