Pattern Mash Up: Be Outstanding Overalls & Sunkissed Dress Pattern

Hello everyone!

I wanted to share a mash I did with the Be Outstanding Overalls and the Sunkissed dress patterns. My youngest has really gotten into overalls the past few weeks and we didn’t have a whole lot that weren’t pants so she wouldn’t overheat during the day. One day we hopefully will live in a place that has actual seasons and we can wear pants more often.

Anyone who has a toddler knows the struggles of getting them dressed, so dress overalls were going to save the day. Bonus points: the straps are made to tie up so it’ll allow the overalls to be worn for longer than traditional snap ones. So this will hopefully last as long or longer than her fascination of overalls.

You’ll need the top pieces of the Be Outstanding Overalls. I chose the sweetheart neckline and then the circle skirt from the Sunkissed dress. Both patterns use woven fabrics so I chose Minnie Mouse to just feed that Disney obsession she already has. Sew the top together as stated in the Be Outstanding overalls pattern up to the point of attaching the pants. We will be attaching the circle skirt here instead. Make sure to iron where stated so your seams look neat and tidy.

Once the top is together, insert the skirt with right sides touching together and raw edges aligned. Sew together. Use pinking shears on the seam allowance or a serger so the seam doesn’t fray.  Then hem the skirt with your preference. You could also hem the skirt before attaching it to the top of the Be Outstanding Overalls. I chose to do a rolled hem with my serger but you could also just fold and press and then fold once more before stitching the hem.

Congratulations! You have a cute new overall dress that is perfect for the hot weather! Hopefully your kid loves it too. I am just imagining all the possibilities with this skirt overalls. Can you imagine it with some denim and some lace added at the hem? I know I will have to start sewing up more because this little one didn’t want to take it off at the end of the day.

I hope this was a great hack for everyone and if you make one please share in the Ellie and Mac facebook group so I can see. I’d love to see what everyone does.
