Bonjour!  It is Lo, from Seams Sew Lo again! Do you love wine and need a fun Christmas sweater or dress?  Well, here is a quick and easy tutorial on how to make your own Wine Stocking Sweater.

Great news is the Ellie and Mac has a FREE Christmas Stocking sewing pattern!  It has an amazing tutorial as well.  I, however, am not always great at following directions, so I hacked the the tutorial just a little. (Okay, maybe a lot)

I only cut two mirrored images of the Christmas Stocking instead of 4, so this is my first hack.  The green fabric is a forest green stretch velvet. Since, the fabric has some stretch, I used some red felt fabric for the the mirrored layer to give the stocking more strength.

Clip (I adore these clips) the right sides together of the two mirrored pieces.

Then sew along all the edges, except the top edge. Trim down the seam allowances, clipping triangles around the curved edges. Then turn your stocking right side out. If you follow the actual tutorial directions your stocking will have a better curve.

Clip the faux fur cuff piece to the top of the stocking.  Then, sew the faux fur onto the stocking. Sew slow, so the faux fur does not get stuck in the sewing machine.

With glass head pins, pin the christmas stocking onto the front of the Watch and See Tunic and Dress. Be sure, when pinning the Christmas stocking onto the dress, to make sure the pins do gather the fabric underneath the stocking.  Topstitch the stocking onto the dress. I used a regular straight stitch. Also, I changed thread colors, white for the faux fur and green for the rest of the stocking.

I recommend attaching the stocking to the bodice of the dress/shirt/tunic/etc before sewing, however, it can be done afterwards.  Actually, I made this watch and see tunic last year and added it the stocking this year. So, it is possible to add the stocking to a ready made or already made outfit.

For the Watch and See Dress, I used  red stretch velvet with two way stretch.  I wanted something a little more sturdy, so the bottle did not weigh down the dress.

Voila!  You now have your own Wine Christmas Stocking Sweater Dress!
