Basic neutral leggings. Can I get a, “YES PLEASE!” This staple wardrobe item has been ar ound for ages and is a perfect piece for a capsule (or any!) wardrobe. It’s easy to pair with so many things, it rolls up tiny to fit in a drawer or suitcase on the go, and it is just so comfy!
And with the Ellie and Mac Urban Legs Leggings pattern it’s also a fast, easy and super fun sew!
Hi! I’m Jenn! Today I’m going to show you 5 ways to style your Urban Legs Leggings from Ellie and Mac! I am a full - time student, a stay - home mom to 3 busy kids, and I’m in the process of becoming a teacher so I’m always looking for quick and simple ways to look decent and feel good. I’m also a woman with a FULL closet! This year, one of my goals is to simplify my wardrobe and really use the pieces I love the most. And these make the list!
Let’s get started!
Quick Tips
- Find a good fabric!
For some that may be a double brushed polyester that feels like you’re wearing a cloud. For me, I prefer a thicker, athletic knit that holds me nice and snug and won’t stretch out after a few hours of wear. I think it also makes it more versatile as it can go straight from the gym to err ands to dinner all with one pair. (With a shower in between, of course!)
- Find a good fit!
Take the time to try different fits and cuts with your leggings. Try a couple different waistbands and heights. I like a high waist because it makes my midsection feel nice and snug. Maybe you love a lower rise.
Try different lengths! I have found I love a crop length. I tend to wear ankle boots and having a little skin peeking out between your boot and your pant leg gives the illusion of longer legs. A crop legging helps me with that.
Let’s Style
Let's get started with an athleisure look! Leggings with athletic shoes, a T - shirt and/or cute hoodie and a hat and you’re ready for a run, some yoga or some heavy lifting! If you’re not the gym type but just love the look this is also cute to run to the store or the park with the little ones!

Next, these leggings paired with an ankle boot and a sweater are at the top of my list. Do a little french tuck (pictured here) or let it hang loose and you are casual and stylish. You can even accessorize with a cute scarf! Perfect for lunch with a friend, even a more casual office setting.

Speaking of sweaters, who doesn’t love a cardigan? Leggings and a nice top under a cardigan with nice flats or a cute bootie (seen here) and you look appropriate and cute for so many different settings!

Let’s dress it up a little with a longer blazer. I used a basic tee underneath but you could pop on a button down or silky blouse and be business ready with this one! This would also be great with a tall boot!

Last but not least, a fun outfit to run around in! Grab your leggings, favorite graphic tee, a jean jacket and your sneakers and you’ll be comfy and cute from the coffee shop to the grocery store and all the way to the school pick up line!

I hope these looks inspired you to make these awesome leggings a part of your closet! Thanks for coming by for a look!
